Rebecca Creek

I was recently invited to an exclusive Blogger event at Rebecca Creek Distillery in the San Antonio Hill Country for a Tour and Whiskey Tasting. Rebecca Creek is the only whiskey brand to be named after a woman, so I found that extremely refreshing and interesting. The distillery carries 3 spirits so far, Texas Spirit Whiskey, Enchanted Rock Vodka and their latest addition, Enchanted Rock Peach Vodka. The tour was extremely informative and we learned about the distilling process and the importance of preserving the flavor. I found it particularly interesting to see a small staff applying the labels and boxing it all themselves. it's a small production, but you can feel the love and pride with which they prepare the craft spirits and that's that Texas pride. I've always had a preference for single malt Scotch and I had only recently tried bourbon. I must say, that Rebecca Creek Whiskey is incredibly smooth and rich with flavor. Absolutely perfect for one of my favorite cocktails, the Old Fashioned. The Enchanted Rock Vodka is unbelievably smooth! Our beautiful bartender is a master mixologist, who created an absolutely delicious cocktail perfect for summer. Muddled strawberries, watermelons, lime juice and other undisclosed ingredients made for the most refreshing flavors where you couldn't taste the vodka but there was definitely some punch to it. The experience was lovely, the staff was friendly and the cocktail were delicious. I brought a bottle of their Peach Vodka and I can't wait to make delicious summer cocktails!

Cocktails with a Latin Twist

Last week I attended the book signing for Latin Twist: Traditional & Modern Cocktails by Vianney Rodriguez and Yvette Marquez-Sharpnack. This compilation of delicious cocktail recipes inspired by Latin American and Caribbean countries includes traditional and some modern twists to our favorite drinks. I was pleasantly surprised to see a new take on traditional cocktails from my own Heritage, Dominican Republic and from where I spent most of my life, Puerto Rico. I actually showed my mother recipes of her favorites like Morir Soñando, with added Liquor 43 and she will definitely try it out this Summer. A wonderful add on to my home bar/lounge, I'll have tons of fabulous cocktails to prepare for my Summer Soirees!

Gladiate

Fashion Week South was my first "fashion week" working on official capacity with Style Lush TV. It was absolute madness and so much running around, but I loved every minute of it. From meeting Fern Mallis, Project Runway designers, to high fashion designers brought in from New York and Milan and even Mike Beaty, who modeled in the 60's with the iconic Twiggy and runs one of the largest Talent & Model Expos in America. This experience was absolutely fascinating and if I didn't prepare it could have been so overwhelming. I may have worn heels the first day, but I made sure to wear comfortable shoes throughout the week. I wasn't willing to sacrifice style so I opted for a pair of chunky heels the 2nd day and gladiator sandals on the 3rd day. I'd worn this dress before, but I gave it new life with a sleeveless ivory vest and the sandals. I was comfortable, able to beat the heat and was right on with my Summer look. Can't wait for the Fashion Week San Antonio this Fall and do it all over again!

Puerto Rico Diary Part 4: The Door to San Juan

It's officially been a month since we returned from our fabulous vacation to Puerto Rico and it feels like it's been a year. I think we should have stayed the full 2 weeks, but it just wasn't possible. It's like it's never enough time, we haven't visited enough people or gone to enough beaches. In an attempt to enjoy our very last day there, we went to Old San Juan and just enjoyed a lovely Brunch. Until next time Borikén! I'm already planning my next vacation.

Princess Diary

Happy Monday! Last week was crazy busy, but truly the best time ever! I wanted to share this post a long time ago, but today seems fitting since the Monday Blues are hitting me hard and I wanted to remind myself that we all deserve to be a Princess, at least for day. I did this shoot some time ago and I wanted it to be for my birthday but it with all my travels it was impossible. It was so much fun to shoot! I found the skirt at Kohl's in the sales rack, ridiculously low priced since the Cinderella collection from LC by Lauren Conrad was already being phased out. I wanted the look to be very soft, so I pulled my hair back, which I rarely do and wore neutral makeup. I really did feel like a Princess!

Feliz Lunes!

Style Icon: Fern Mallis

Never in a million years did I ever think I'd be working in Fashion Media. My love affair with fashion started when I was very young. Watching my mother dress up for fabulous events and growing up in New York inspired me every single day. I remember as a teenager, living in Puerto Rico, I struggled with trying to be the New Yorker I truly am, and was mocked incessantly with silly things like "Ooooh, look at this ridiculous girl trying to be all fashionable!". Mostly because I never got over the fact that I wanted to dress for the seasons even though in the tropics there is only perennial Summer. So, I started to live vicariously through magazines and television whenever New York Fashion Week came along. I'd dream of being there, sitting front row in my most fabulous look while witnessing first hand while the runway shows would play on TV. Back then, it was only a dream.

Today, I had the opportunity to meet Fern Mallis, founder of New York Fashion week, style icon and now writer, for her book signing at Saks Fifth Ave San Antonio. I must say, that it was the highlight of my very new career in fashion media. We had the great honor to interview her and speak with her on a very candid level. I've never met someone so important, yet so humble and genuine. Tune in to StyleLushTV.com to view the full interview.

___________
